Singh, the Defence Minister, committed a significant faux pas in Badaun, asserting erroneously that Rahul Gandhi held the reins as India’s Prime Minister, while reflecting on the nation’s trajectory during the Congress regime.
In an address at a public gathering in Uttar Pradesh’s Badaun, concerning the Amla Lok Sabha seat, Singh proclaimed that India strides forward on all fronts, progressing with alacrity compared to its status under Congress’s governance. He endeavored to juxtapose Prime Minister Narendra Modi with his predecessors from the Congress era.
During his comparison with past Prime Ministers, Singh posed the question, “I beseech you to recollect whether Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru occupied the highest echelon of Indian leadership, whether Indira ji commanded the nation, whether Rahul Gandhi ascended to the premiership of India….”
Swift to amend his misstatement, Singh promptly clarified that Rahul Gandhi had never held the office of Prime Minister, nor does he harbor prospects for it. “Rahul Gandhi has never helmed the position of Prime Minister, nor is there any potentiality for it,” he appended.
This incident unfolded merely a day subsequent to Shivpal Singh Yadav of the Samajwadi Party (SP) committing a parallel gaffe during his address at a public gathering in support of Dimple Yadav, a candidate for the Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat. The SP luminary had erroneously prognosticated victory for the BJP.
Realizing his lapse, Yadav expeditiously endeavored to rectify his assertion, emphasizing the imperative of fortifying the SP.
