Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh: A 43-year-old sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) in Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh was found to have allegedly taken his own life, authorities disclosed on Monday.
The individual, Alok Kumar Singh, reportedly descended into a melancholic state after his wife’s demise due to a brain tumor a year ago. He had taken a 15-day hiatus, returning to his hometown in Azamgarh.
Singh, who resided in the Budhanpur locality under the jurisdiction of Atraulia police station in Azamgarh, was discovered deceased in his room on Sunday night. His tenants and local residents notified law enforcement, prompting a police team to arrive on the scene and convey the body for autopsy.
Singh’s kin conveyed that he had been grappling with sorrow since his wife’s passing the previous year. He is survived by his two daughters, who are engrossed in their preparation for the civil services examination in Prayagraj.
Singh, stationed as Ghazipur SDM, also held responsibilities as the Executive Officer overseeing Ghazipur’s Municipality. He belonged to the 2003 cohort of PCS officers.
He was unaccompanied at home on Sunday when he made the fatal decision. It was only later at night that the tenants and neighbors became aware of the situation and contacted the authorities.
Upon receiving news of the event, Atraulia Police arrived at the scene and took custody of the remains.
Alok’s father mentioned that his son had become reclusive after his wife’s passing, showing little attachment to others in the village. He was consumed by depression and remained largely isolated from social interactions.
Circle Officer Budhanpur, Kiranpal Singh, stated that a case has been instituted in relation to the incident, and measures will be taken following the results of the postmortem examination.
