In the district of Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, a grievous mishap transpired on the Lakhimpur-Bahraich road, claiming the lives of at least five individuals, including a juvenile, and leaving seven others wounded. This tragic event occurred as a result of a collision between a Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) bus and another vehicle, according to police reports.
A high-ranking police officer elucidated that the calamity unfolded near the Rabahi bridge. “A head-on collision ensued between the UPSRTC bus and the opposing vehicle. The force of the impact was so catastrophic that both vehicles were propelled into a roadside ditch. Four victims perished instantaneously, while seven others sustained injuries,” the official recounted.
Those injured were promptly transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment. “A case will be lodged under pertinent sections of the IPC and the Motor Vehicles Act. The deceased have been transferred to a government hospital, with arrangements made to release the bodies to their families once formalities are concluded,” the official further conveyed, noting that an investigation is underway by the Lakhimpur Police.
In a separate incident on the preceding Saturday night, a truck heavily laden with ballast overturned onto a private bus transporting devotees from Sitapur to Purnagiri, resulting in the tragic demise of 11 individuals and injuring 10 others.
Shahjahanpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashok Kumar Meena confirmed the incident. The calamity occurred when the bus halted at a ‘dhaba’ (roadside eatery) on the Gola bypass road in the Khutar area. A truck brimming with stones collided with the bus and subsequently overturned, causing pandemonium at the scene.
