In Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh), a bride disappeared with gold jewelry and cash worth lakhs just before her wedding in Kanpur South, claiming she needed to use the washroom. The groom, Khalak Singh from Jhansi, filed a complaint, alleging fraud by both the runaway bride and the marriage bureau involved.
Despite extensive search efforts by the groom’s family, the woman remained elusive. Khalak met the bride through an online marriage website, initially paying a registration fee of Rs 25,000. He later deposited Rs 1,10,000 for marriage arrangements.
However, on April 10, at the Baradevi temple after exchanging jewelry, the bride and her relatives vanished during the wedding rituals.
In his complaint, Khalak stated, “In December 2023, I paid Rs 25,000 and registered with a marriage bureau. They presented several girl profiles to me and asked for a deposit of Rs 1,10,000. After almost three months, the bureau connected me with a girl, and we agreed to marry at the Baradevi temple.”
Feeling betrayed, Khalak initiated a police investigation supervised by DCP South Ravindra Kumar to uncover the truth behind the allegations and take appropriate action.
DCP South Ravindra Kumar stated, “A case of marriage fraud with Khalak Singh has been reported. Investigations are underway based on the victim’s complaint, and efforts are being made to apprehend the accused.”
