Aamir Khan has discussed his post-divorce collaborations with the producer, screenwriter, and director Kiran Rao. During an interview with News18 India, Aamir ridiculed the notion that a physician might counsel a divorced couple to become adversaries. Conversely, he conveyed appreciation to Kiran Rao for entering his life, affirming that they “will continue to progress together.”
Referring to his work with his ex-wife Kiran Rao after their divorce, Aamir remarked, “Has any medical professional suggested that divorce inevitably transforms individuals into immediate foes? I consider myself fortunate that Kiran graced my existence, and our journey has been profoundly enriching for me. Together, we have forged myriad creations, both personally and professionally, and we are poised to advance collectively.”
Expanding on their connection on a humane and emotional level, he expressed, “We are akin to a familial unit. The workings of her mind, her intellect… even on occasions when she reprimands me, it is a source of amusement.
Aamir and Kiran tied the knot in 2005, welcoming their son Azad Rao Khan in 2011 before ultimately parting ways in 2021. Kiran commenced her career as an assistant director in Lagaan. She later penned the screenplay and directed Dhobi Ghat under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions, with the film hitting screens in January 2011.
Kiran’s upcoming film, Laapataa Ladies, is slated for release in theaters on March 1. The narrative orbits around two young brides who become disoriented on a rural Indian train ride in 2001, embarking on a journey fraught with enigmatic challenges. Sparsh Shrivastav, Nitanshi Goel, and Pratibha Ranta play pivotal roles in the movie. Laapataa Ladies is produced by Aamir Khan and Jyoti Deshpande, with Kiran Rao at the helm.
