A significant respite embraced the denizens of Telangana’s capital as dense downpours accompanied by thunderstorms graced Hyderabad and its surrounding districts during the weekend.

Regions like Rajendranagar, Turkayamjal, Saroornagar, Nagole, Uppal, Chaitanyapuri, Keesara, Dammaiguda, Yapral, Adikmet, Gachibowli, Nacharam, Habsiguda, and various others were draped in moderate to heavy rainfall.

This sudden shift in weather sparked jubilation among Hyderabad’s inhabitants, who had endured scorching heatwaves in recent weeks. Yet, the climatic shift also posed challenges for early commuters, with office-goers grappling with waterlogged roads and traffic snarls.

For those sweltering under the sun, the rain was a welcomed reprieve. Just a day earlier, temperatures soared to a scorching 44 degrees Celsius at some locales.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) sounded an alert for light to moderate rain, coupled with gentle thunderstorms and surface winds under 40 kmph in select areas across Hyderabad, Jagtial, Jangaon, Jogulamba Gadwal, Kamareddy, Malkajgiri, Nagarkurnool, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Rajanna Sircilla, Rangareddy, Sangareddy, Siddipet, Wanaparthy, Warangal, Hanamkonda, and Yadadri Bhongir.

In a bulletin released Saturday morning, the IMD hinted at potential minor disruptions to insecure structures. “Vigilance is advised for deteriorating weather conditions, with readiness to relocate to safer environs as necessary,” the bulletin cautioned.

Numerous denizens of Hyderabad took to X, expressing their elation at the sight of rain. “Pure bliss! To awaken to rain amidst relentless summer, with temperatures hitting 41-43 degrees Celsius daily!” exclaimed one X user.

“The southern panorama of Hyderabad now unfolds. From Shamshabad to Adibatla to Charminar, cascading into Nampally, Saroornagar, Malakpet, Dilsukhnagar, Vanasthalipuram, and Kachiguda. A refreshing interlude indeed,” shared another resident of Hyderabad.

“Morning commuters navigate waterlogged thoroughfares near the #Telangana Secretariat in #Hyderabad, as the city awakens to a #rainy dawn after an extended hiatus,” a user detailed, recounting the challenges faced by commuters amidst the rainfall.
