In the midst of an expected surge of air travel at the recently unveiled Terminal-3 within Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport located in Lucknow, the airport’s authorities have opted to halt flight operations during nocturnal hours for a duration spanning three months to facilitate necessary reinforcement endeavors, as per informed sources.
The freshly minted Terminal-3 at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport, Lucknow, was ceremoniously unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, March 10th.
Reports suggest that the introduction of the new T-3 terminal is poised to precipitate a substantial upsurge in air traffic at the airport. Consequently, the reinforcement of the soil encompassing the runway has emerged as an imperative. This exigency mandates the temporary suspension of flight operations to execute the aforementioned reinforcement tasks, as per sources familiar with the matter.
Airport authorities have formally requested a grace period from the Airport Authority of India to facilitate the extension of the runway. The initiation of this endeavor is contingent upon securing the requisite approval from the Airport Authority of India, sources disclose. Notably, sources affiliated with the airport divulge that aircraft landings and takeoffs will be proscribed between the hours of 10 pm and 6 am from April 18th to July 18th.
It is noteworthy that on March 10th, the virtual inauguration of the newly erected Terminal-3 at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport transpired under the auspices of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This development is poised to engender a surge in aircraft presence at the site, consequently amplifying the load on the runway manifold.
Sources intimate that the expansion of the runway from 2744 meters to 3500 meters is imperative to accommodate the landing of larger aircraft at Lucknow airport. A spokesperson representing the airport asserts that the extension of the runway is slated to be oriented towards the east. As per the spokesperson, a consensus has already been brokered in this regard, with all requisite approvals duly obtained. Preliminary groundwork in this regard was also undertaken in the preceding February.
Permission to close the runway between the hours of 10 pm and 6 am from April 18th to July 18th has been formally sought to facilitate the requisite runway works.
