Tehran: A bus carrying Shia pilgrims from Pakistan to Iraq crashed in central Iran, killing not less than 28 folks, an official confirmed on Wednesday.

The accident occurred within the central Iranian province of Yazd on Tuesday evening, native emergency official Mohammad Ali Malekzadeh informed state information company IRNA. He mentioned 23 others had been injured within the accident, 14 of them critically. He mentioned all of the passengers on the bus had been from Pakistan. There have been 51 folks on board the bus when the accident occurred exterior the town of Taft, about 500 kilometers (310 miles) southeast of the Iranian capital Tehran. Iranian media blamed the bus’s brake failure and its driver for the accident.
