In an interview with news agency AFP, the El Olivar resident recounted his attempt to assist his neighbor before realizing that his own residence had succumbed to the flames.
He noted that the majority of El Olivar residents are elderly, mentioning that his neighbor perished as they were unable to evacuate her.
According to the country’s housing ministry, approximately 3,000 to 6,000 residences have been affected by the fires.
The report indicates that on Sunday, 1,400 firefighters, along with military personnel and emergency services, were mobilized, while investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
