Washington: The Biden administration underscored India’s significance as a pivotal strategic ally for the US and indicated that the relationship’s current trajectory is anticipated to persist without deviation.

In a media briefing on Monday, State Department spokesperson Mathew Miller addressed inquiries regarding the US-India rapport, particularly in light of critical commentary about the Indian government preceding the Lok Sabha elections in India.

When posed with questions about perceived democratic erosion in India and recent State Department statements about the suppression of dissent, Miller emphasized India’s status as the world’s largest democracy and a crucial strategic ally of the US, affirming his expectation for these dynamics to hold steady.

US representatives have consistently labeled India as a “highly significant collaborator,” noting the ongoing expansion of ties between the two nations.

Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s momentous State Visit to the White House last year, there has been some friction in bilateral ties, particularly concerning the Sikh separatist movement in the US and the State Department’s contentious statement regarding the arrest of Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. India’s strong disapproval of such remarks from the State Department remains notable.
