Washington: Jake Sullivan, National Security Advisor at the White House, declared that the US will soon impose fresh sanctions targeting Iran’s missile and drone development projects. This move will also extend to penalizing organizations aligned with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Iran’s Defense Ministry in the days ahead. Sullivan affirmed that, following Iran’s recent air assault on Israel, President Biden is collaborating with international partners, including the G7 and bipartisan Congressional leaders, to establish a comprehensive response.

He continued by emphasizing the new round of sanctions would address Iran’s missile and drone initiatives, as well as impose penalties on organizations affiliated with the IRGC and the Iranian Defense Ministry. Sullivan noted that the US anticipates its international allies and partners to follow suit and introduce their own sanctions against Iran.

The United States is also prioritizing the strengthening and expansion of integrated air and missile defense and early warning systems throughout the Middle East to undermine Iran’s missile and UAV capabilities, Sullivan remarked. He added that allies and partners are expected to introduce their own measures shortly. Moreover, through the Department of Defense and U.S. Central Command, the US continues to enhance and widen the region’s integrated air and missile defense network.

Sullivan described these sanctions and measures as part of a consistent effort to apply pressure on Iran and diminish its military capabilities, as well as counter its disruptive behaviors. Over the past three years, the US has already levied sanctions on more than 600 individuals and entities associated with terrorism, as well as other illicit activities and human rights violations.

He reiterated that the US will remain resolute in its efforts to hold Iran accountable for its malign and destabilizing actions, working closely with global allies and Congress. Sullivan noted that President Biden had recently met with his national security team to receive updates on Iran’s attacks against Israel and to affirm the US’s unwavering commitment to Israel’s security in the face of threats from Iran and its proxies.

Following Iranian drone strikes on Israel, President Biden convened a meeting with his national security team. In a post on X, he expressed his support for Israel’s security, calling it “ironclad.” This reaction was spurred by Iran’s recent launch of drones and missiles towards Israel in response to an alleged Israeli strike on its consulate in Syria, which reportedly resulted in the deaths of three top Iranian generals.

On Sunday morning, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari stated that nearly all of the approximately 300 projectiles fired at Israel by Iran had been intercepted by the country’s air defense systems.

Hagari praised the Israeli military for intercepting Iranian missiles and drones and referred to it as an impressive military achievement. He also confirmed that Iran launched 120 ballistic missiles at Israel. Hagari highlighted the continued operation of the Nevatim airbase, showing live footage from the site.

John Kirby, White House National Security Council spokesperson, praised Israel’s actions on Sunday, calling them an “incredible military achievement.” In an interview with NBC News’ ‘Meet The Press,’ Kirby emphasized that Israel’s actions demonstrated remarkable military prowess.

Kirby underscored Israel’s strong alliances and support from the US, noting their coordinated efforts in defending against the numerous Iranian drones and missiles. He acknowledged Israel’s demonstration of military superiority and resilience on the global stage. Nevertheless, Kirby reiterated that the US seeks no war with Iran and aims to prevent any escalation, while continuing to assist Israel in its defense.
