Legal Showdown Unveiled: Dhoni’s Lawsuit Takes an Unexpected Turn!
In the realm of legal battles, a defamation lawsuit has been instituted against the erstwhile luminary of Indian cricket, MS Dhoni. Lodged at the esteemed Delhi High Court, this legal contention emerges from the grievance filed by Dhoni’s former business comrade, Mihir Diwakar. Alongside, Soumya Das, the spouse of Diwakar, stands as an official co-litigant in this legal pursuit against the former captain of the Indian men’s cricket team. Confirmation of this legal action is drawn from a detailed report disseminated by the news agency PTI.
The report elucidates that Diwakar and Das are vehemently seeking to prohibit Dhoni and those executing actions on his behalf from propagating any assertions of a defamatory nature. The legal recourse pertains to the alleged transgression of a contractual agreement forged between the two parties back in 2017.
Mihir Diwakar & Anr v Mahendra Singh Dhoni & Ors- What’s The Case?
It remains salient to acknowledge that Dhoni had engaged in a contractual agreement with Aarka Sports Management, a company under the ownership purview of Diwakar and Das. This accord was tailored to the establishment of cricket academies both within India and on the global stage. Although the legal action was initiated on Tuesday, January 16, its adjudication is scheduled to unfold before Justice Pratibha M Singh on Thursday, January 18.
As per the allegations outlined in the lawsuit, Dhoni and his proxies purportedly disseminated injurious assertions against the proprietors of Aarka Sports Management. The crux of Dhoni’s claim revolves around the assertion that Diwakar and Das allegedly defrauded him of nearly 15 crores after failing to materialize the cricket academies within the stipulated timeframe. Following this, Diwakar contends that even before the court’s verdict, Dhoni’s legal representative, Dayanand Shamra, conducted a press conference wherein defamatory allegations were pronounced. This legal pursuit by Diwakar and Das transpires subsequent to Dhoni’s initiation of a criminal case against them, predicated on the alleged breach of a contract sealed in 2017.
Shifting focus to Dhoni’s cricketing trajectory, the retired international cricketer is poised to helm CSK in IPL 2024. Despite contending with a knee injury in the preceding season, Dhoni underwent surgical intervention upon the culmination of IPL 2023. Notably, he has commenced preparations for the upcoming 2024 season, as evidenced by a circulating social media video showcasing his batting prowess at the nets.
